A major boon: You can change the resolution to one of three preset options or to a custom resolution - a bandwidth-saving trick that avid shooters will appreciate.Īutodesk's Pixlr Express is a highly capable image-editing tool. When you save an image, you first choose whether to share the image via another app, or save the image directly into your Google Gallery. That's fine for image previews, but for the actual edits, it's difficult to tell whether a crop is too tight, or how much to denoise an image when all you're seeing on-screen is the pixelated low-res version. Take Focal Blur: You can control both the focal point and the width of a concentric circle for the blur effect, and decide whether you want the blur to be linear or circular.Īs with other apps, such as Aviary, you can't change either the crop of an image or its orientation while retaining a specific aspect ratio (for example, when cropping a landscape image to a portrait orientation).Īlso, like other free apps, Pixlr Express shows you a low-res thumbnail of the image you're editing. Hahaha.Click to EnlargeOther effects are simply brilliant in their simplicity - and alluring in how you can creatively adjust your image.

I right click more than I left click when I draw sometimes (colour picker or brush size ), so having to manually change colours or manually change sizes is slow and bothersome to me.

No, Right click either opens either Path for the Pen Tool or the Size for the Brush in my programs. I cannot live without right click, and in Pixlr, Right click opens a settings menu for Flash, I believe. I would have to say Gimp, since it more resembles Photoshop. Pixlr has less features, but easy to get to, but Gimp has more features, but the set up is very confusing. And for Pixlr, I realized at school, CTRL-Z didn’t work, but it did at home, so it was not fully compatible in all browsers (or we had an outdated plug in, somewhere, which is also hindering). It took a very long, looong time to understand that Gimp opens canvases in FLOATING windows, instead of in the program, itself, like Photoshop. Hard choice… Since I’ve used more advanced programs, I see the effectiveness of both, and the obvious flaws that bug me till no end in both, too. (However, upon installing it says “I will not bother the developers if this does not work” so it’s 'hope that works' or nothing”. There are not many Windows versions of Gimp, and those with Windows 7 may have to run a beta version of a 64xBit that barely ever makes it past start up. All images/canvases open in new floating windows outside the program, so those used to have images open as a window inside the program will be confused and unaware where the new images may be.Gimp also has more features more closely related to Photoshop and a wiser array of items. Gimp is better designed than Pixlr, being able to use the right mouse button. The commands, at first, can be very confusing and randomly placed, but with some effort, it can be accomplished that you can find what you need. Gimp is also a free program, but you need to install it onto your computer to use it. After a while, you're marker will 'drag' even when you're not touching the pad and needs two undoes instead of one to get rid of. This is from experience, and I lost the same file, twice, after rebuilding it from scratch. it will eventually crash the program if you use it too long. It is an easily accessible program, being available for free on the web, with no need for installing extra objects to run it.ĮditI also just found out Pixlr is NOT tablet friendly. To those who do not have the money to spend on programs like Corel Painter, Easy Paint Tool SAI, Paint Shop Pro and the most acclaimed Photoshop will find Pixlr ‘good enough’ to do what they want. The fact that it crashes easily and is not fully functional in some browsers gives the program a bad rep with some users who have used better programs.

Pixlr can do almost everything a paid for program can do from using filters to adding text to changing the colours and background elements. The fact that it is readily available on the internet, however, makes it a very convenient program. Pixlr is an online image editor, but it does not work in most browsers (Ex: IE).
